Rosetta Stones by Catherine Parra Dix
Young Adult Book Cover

After reading Catherine’s book, I was super excited to be able to work on this project! The story was dark and dire and I had so many ideas! My favourite idea was a black and white image with Rosetta Stone-shaped dice right before the die would be cast.

Alas, it was a good learning experience as the publisher decided they wanted to go in a different direction based on my previous work. I remember feeling perplexed when they told me. It’s supposed to be a scary story… you want a watercolour? Really? Ok.

Looking at the book cover now, I’m happy that I had the experience painting this image and to say that my work has improved! Practice! Practice! Practice!

Pluses: Doing a book cover! Learning how to paint an old truck! Seeing my work on Good Reads! Seeing it on Amazon! Woot!

Rosetta Stones won the New Mexico Book Award's 2009 "Best First Book" award and the Moonbeam Children's 2009 bronze medal award in young adult fiction. Catherine Dix was also a finalist in the New Mexico Book Award's young adult fiction category.
